Swallowed salt water, we grew up
belly full on the Pacific

I found a shell on the sand yesterday.

I brought it up to my ear to hear the rolling waves and found his faint whisper from that last day. I climbed slowly into it and laid down in the hollow hum. Made my home on the water.

Watching sunrise through the waves: the color
of my grandfather’s ashes pulled under.
